Gareth Davies, coordinator of the SCR4Cleft project, was given the opportunity to present on project progress at a Management Committee meeting of COST Action CA16234: European cleft and Craniofacial initiative for equality in care (ECCE), which took place in Talinn, Estonia on October 22, 2021.
Over 30 participants attended from 30 partner countries and there was a lot of interest in the SCR4Cleft project, especially from the speech therapists present. They are eager to use the project resources when completed later in 2022. This COST Action brings together specialists in obstetrics, anatomy, speech therapy, psychology, dentists, orthodontists, paediatric surgeons and nurses in order to enhance the research related to cleft lip and palate and craniofacial anomalies. The consortium, which is led by Professor Martin Jens Persson from the University of Kristianstad in Sweden, includes a combination of “players” in research, health care delivery and training expertise.
It was as a result of the collaboration within the COST Action that the SCR4Cleft project came about. There were SCR4Cleft project partners present at the Estonia meeting from 6 countries, including Malta, who will be hosting our next project meeting in December 2021. This is the first face to face meeting we will have had since the kick off meeting in 2019 as a result of the pandemic and we are looking forward to the meeting which will be hosted by project partners at the University of Malta Professor Helen Grech from the Department of Communication Therapy, Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Jean Calleja Agius from the Department of Anatomy.
